Queenstown's Coronet Peak is the South Island's most popular ski area. Its diverse terrain, incredible views, and it's closeness to Queenstown makes for an unforgettable snow experience.
Known by many as the birthplace of South Island skiing, Coronet Peak is host to many sporting and social events including the FIS rated Southern Cup and the Lindauer Queenstown Winter Festival. It is also the training ground of New Zealand's National Ski Team.
The Original resort ski area is just 25 minutes from Queenstown's centre. It has a reputation for some of the best and varied terrain in Australia and New Zealand and after experiencing it for yourself it will be no wonder to you why Coronet Peak has developed such a strong name. Coronet Peak Snow Fields attract visitors from right around the globe, including international competitive skiers and snowboarders who just can't get enough of the snow slopes.
Access to the area is excellent, by sealed road from Queenstown, only 25 minutes away. Coronet Peak?s terrain is rated so well it's even good when the sun goes down - night skiing, exclusive to Coronet Peak, allows skiers and riders to continue through the hours of the night.
Tandem Paragliding and Hang Gliding is also available off the Coronet Peak ski field, the highest of the flying sites in Queenstown.
Coronet Peak has 280 skiable hectares accessed by a six seater express chair, an express quad, a double chair, a t-bar, magic carpet and beginner tow. Extensive, snowmaking ensures a long season. The ski area has a targeted opening date of June 10 and the season generally lasts until early October.
Terrain Park
Coronet Peak is a natural snowboard fun park
a freestyle dream. You can ride the wide trails or turn your legs to
jelly exploring the unlimited variety of hit lines across the field.
Coronet features two FIS halfpipes, a purpose built pipe shaper and a
terrain park.
Night Skiing
During the height of the
Season (mid July- mid September), Coronet Peak is open for Night Skiing
on Friday and Saturday nights until 9:00pm. A large area of terrain is
lit for night skiing and most base facilities remain open. It's an
experience to continue skiing as the sun descends and the lights come
on.
Snowmaking
Coronet are the industry leaders in
snowmaking. The fan forced system employed over most of the piste area
of the mountain produces light, dry and fine snow which is extremely
durable and allows Coronet Peak to operate during even the worst years.
Grooming
With
a fleet of groomers, including a 'winch cat' for the steeper slopes,
the piste runs are prepared every night for the next big day out.
Groomer drivers have many years experience on Coronet Peak and
consistently produce results that are the envy of other ski areas.
Ski & Snowboarding Racing
Each
year coronet Peak is host to some of the best skiers in the world.
Various World Cup Teams use Coronet Peak as an off-season training
ground par-excellence. Many FIS races are held here every season.
Base Facilities
The
Base Building At Coronet Peak provides everything you could ever want.
A large day room, storage, rental, a cafe, Coronet Brasserie, large
open decking with plenty of tables, an outstanding aspect on the field,
Ski School, Kids Creche, Skiwiland, guest services, administration,
First Aid/Medical centre (with doctor on duty) and lockers which can be
rented by the season.
Getting There
From Queenstown
follow the sign posts to Coronet along the skippers road. The access
road is 13km out of town on the left. The road to the ski field is
sealed all the way to the top.
