The Remarkables Snow Field

Accommodation and Facilities

The Remarkables Ski Area lies across the Wakatipu Basin from sister ski area Coronet Peak.

The Remarkables are a mountain range and skifield in the South Island of New Zealand. Located on the southeastern shore of Lake Wakatipu, the range lives up to its name by rising sharply to create an impressive backdrop for the waters.

The skifield is 540 acres with 5 lifts and is located south of Queenstown. The ski season runs from July to October. The mountains were allegedly named The Remarkables because they are one of only two mountain ranges in the world which run directly north to south.

In the winter, The Remarkables plays host to a wide range of winter activities. Comprising three sunny sheltered bowls, with a lively family atmosphere. Just a 45-minute drive from nearby Queenstown, with frequent bus services to and from town, and several carparks for car drivers, the mountain is in a convenient location.

The Remarkables are famous for their atmosphere of family fun. 'Fun at The Remarks' is the theme, with live music on the sunny decks and entertaining festivals in mid-winter and spring. Children have their own adventure trail and snow-tubing park, and receive a free lift pass if they're under 11 years.

The 220 hectare field is serviced by two quad chairs, one double chair, one magic carpet and one learner tow. The Shadow Basin chair gives access to a superb lookout over Lake Wakatipu at the highest point of 1,935 metres. Snow ratings are 30% beginner, 40% intermediate and 30% advanced. The terrain offers a wide diversity of runs for skiers, snowboarders, telemarkers and cross-country skiers. The three basins can equally satisfy the off-piste explorers and chute-shooters or the cruisey powder-pumpers.

Boarders have a primo terrain park and railway, extreme chutes and gentle learner's slopes. The ski and snowboard schools have a huge range of 'starter' and 'evolution' training packages. There are regular transport services from Queenstown, equipment rental, and a licensed creche. Excellent meals can be enjoyed on the sun deck under the gaze of curious keas.

A day off the slopes can never be boring with Queenstown offering a dazzling array of adventure activities. This high energy resort town has ample accommodation and over 100 restaurants, cafes and bars providing new taste sensations day and night.

The Remarkables afford memorable days of clear, crisp, alpine air, brilliant snow, idyllic scenery and non-stop entertainment. If you are looking for these features you can't go past 'The Remarks'.
